The Tree View makes it easier to see and navigate workspaces with parent-child relationships, such as Locations and Asset Management. This article shows you how to enable the Tree View, find your way around it, and add parent and child cards.
In this article:
How to enable the Tree View
For now, the Tree View needs to be added manually. Soon, the Locations and Asset Management bundles will include the Tree View when you install them.
-
Open the View dropdown.
-
Select Add a View. From the View Type list, select Tree, then click Create View.
-
The Tree View now appears alongside your other view types in the View dropdown.
How to navigate the Tree View
Here are a few pointers for finding your way around the Tree View.
-
Rows collapse and expand, so you can focus on just the level you care about.
-
Open a parent card to see how many children it has in the Referenced In section. In this example, this parent location has 2 sub-locations.
Clicking on the Locations field shows you the Parent's children. In this example, the parent location has two sub-locations.
-
Open a child card to see which parent it belongs to. In this example, the Maintenance Shop is a sub-location of Acme - Raleigh Plant, the parent location.
-
An item with an arrow in front of it has children. Click on the arrow to expand that item and see its children.
-
An item with a circle in front of it does not have any children.
Create Parent and Child in a Tree View
-
In this example, we are in the Locations workspace. Click New to add a new location.
-
Complete the card. A new location is a parent location unless it is set as a child.
-
To add a sub-location, click the + (plus) button next to the location name.
-
Complete the card. The Parent Location field is filled in for you.
You can also add a sub-location by clicking New, selecting the parent in the Parent Location field, and clicking Create.
To move a sub-location to a different parent, open the card and change the Parent Location.
The Tree View isn't available in the Coast mobile app yet, but we're working on it. We ship updates often, so check back soon.
