You can use the free version of Coast for as long as you'd like, and there's no limit to the number of users who can be invited to your account, the messages you can send, and the cards that you can create. But there are a few usage limits to consider:
- Message history:
Only the last 7 days of messages can be viewed and searched after you hit the 2,500 message limit.
- Card history:
Only the last 7 days of cards can be viewed after you hit the 200 card limit.
- File storage:
Add up to 5GB of files to your workspace.
Tip: Upgrading to a paid plan will remove message and card limits, and increase your business's file storage limit.
Message History Limit
You can send unlimited messages in Coast, and view and search any past messages until you hit the 2,500 message limit. Keep in mind that you'll only be able to see messages in chat groups you belong to when you are searching.
If you business exceeds the message limit, users can continue to send messages, but you will only be able to view and search messages from the last 7 days. If you upgrade your business to a paid plan, all your message history will become available again.
What counts as a message
Any message that is sent to a chat group or direct message counts as a message.
Here are some examples to keep in mind:
- A one-word message are counted the same as a message with 500 words. They both count as one message sent.
- Links, images, emojis, and uploaded files that are sent all count towards your business's total number of messages sent.
What is a card?
Each chat group in Coast has a list in it that enables your business to do workflows such as employee scheduling, task management, work order tracking, and much more. A card is the form that is used to create an item in each of these workflows, like creating and assigning a shift, a task, a work order, a checklist, etc. Think of a card as the form that you use to put all the information you need for any workflow.
Here is an example of using a card to create a task:
What counts as a card
Any form that you use to create a task, shift, work order, etc in any chat group is counted as a card.
Here are some example to keep in mind:
- You create a task with a due date and subtasks in a chat group. This counts as one card.
- You create two shifts in the Shift Scheduler that is assigned to two of your employees. This counts as two cards.
Note: Recurring cards do not count towards the card limit until the day of the card. For example if I created a recurring task that repeats weekly on Monday, then every upcoming Monday, a card will be counted towards your limit.
Card History Limits
You can create unlimited Cards in Coast, and view and search any past cards until you hit the 200 card limit.
If your business exceeds the limit, users can continue to create cards, but you will only be able to view and search cards that were created from the last 7 days. If you upgrade your business to a paid plan, all your card history will become available again.
Here are some scenarios that will happen if you exceed the card limit and stay on the free plan:
- For tasks, you will not be able to view a task that was created 10 days ago
- For the shift scheduler, you will not be able to go back to last month's shifts to see who worked on what days.
File storage limit
On the free version of Coast, businesses have up to 5 GB of file storage available. Anything uploaded to a chat group (images, videos, screenshots, PDFs, documents, etc) counts towards this limit.
If your business reaches the limit, users will not be able to upload anymore files until you upgrade to a paid plan to increase your account storage. If you choose to upgrade, your file storage limits will increase to:
- 10GB on the Starter plan
- 50GB on the Plus plan
